For my 20% time project, I wrote 20% of
a book. Allow me to explain. For my 20% time I planned to write a full length
novel. I did not accomplish this goal, but I had a lot of fun writing and I am
very proud of my work. I didn’t get very far in my book, but I know what I want
my ending to be. I don’t know how to get there though. I think that is why I
didn’t finish. I hope to continue my book, finish it in the next few years, and
eventually get it published.
I had some failures throughout this
process. A lot of the time I had no idea where to go with my book. Or I would
have an idea, but I wouldn’t know how to write it. I didn’t really know a lot
of important things like character development. Also, I was (and still am) awful at description. I also had some
major successes. For example, I’m really proud of my idea for my book and it
has inspired me to write more books. I already have at least four ideas.
I learned many things from this
project. The biggest thing I learned is that it is really hard to write a book. Going into it, I thought that I just
had to focus on the main character and the plot. But no; there is so much more than just that. I also had
to focus on character development of all the characters, plot development,
description, setting, and a few more things. I still need to learn better
wording and character development. Another thing that I learned is I should
probably map out all the characters and the plot before I start writing. Also,
I learned that when doing anything (not just writing a book) I have to be
really dedicated and not drift away from it.
Though I did not finish writing my book,
I enjoyed the process. I actually had a lot of fun and I am very excited to
continue/finish my book. I still do have a lot to finish and work on. I also
might change a lot of the details. This project has motivated me to work really
hard in the next few years. My 20% time project was to write a book, but I only
got done with 20% of it.
